News: Wiktor And The War Memorial
at St Olav’s Square, London
Wiktor Magne Mølleskog one of the organisers of The Liberation Convoy Wiktor Magne Mølleskog, the London-based driving force behind The Liberation Convoy, first conceived the idea of honoring Norway’s and the UK’s shared maritime war effort during WWII with a special tribute. Now, he has returned to the Norwegian Church in St Olav’s Square, London - a place deeply connected to his mission.
Commonly known as Sjømannskirken (The Seamen’s Church), this historic site has long been a refuge for Norwegian sailors. It was here that Wiktor, a former ship captain, played a key role in campaigning and fundraising for the war memorial that now stands in the churchyard.
This memorial honours every Navy and Merchant Navy sailor who served during WWII, as well as their families. Nearby, in this small London park, another memorial stands in tribute to those who served during WWI.
